We have created a new database of baroque flute teachers and courses.
Its purpose is to allow baroque flutists of all levels of experience to
find private or institutional tuition, or summer courses, to further their
skills. I hope it will prove useful to some of the 400-500 people who
visit the Folkers & Powell site each day, as well as to the teachers themselves.
The idea of creating a listing of baroque flute teachers came up when
the newsletter TRAVERSO
began over a decade ago. But in those days finding all that information
and printing it on paper seemed like too much work, especially since it
would soon become out of date. In contrast, the database is meant to be
*self-maintaining*, in that teachers *themselves* enter their details.
Wehave started the ball rolling with about 30 entries picked at random,
but from here on, teachers or institutions must add and maintain their
own entries--we will not respond to requests to add, edit, or delete items.
If one of the existing entries is yours and it contains incorrect data,
please edit it. Each page has a function to e-mail you the password that
allows you write access to your own record(s).
If you teach baroque flute either privately or at a college, please go
to the database and add
your information. In the next few days and weeks we'll get the database
linked to the rest of the world so that users can find it.
Books and articles
The contents of the infoshop have moved to a much expanded site at flutehistory.com,
to make room for more sound samples here.
Sound Samples
A new version of RealPlayer delivers sound clips of some of our instruments
in a streaming format, so that the music begins playing while still downloading--if
you have the right player (see button below). For those with special patiece
or a fast internet connection, the same sound samples can be downloaded
in MP3 format. To take advantage of this option you need the RealPlayer,
Windows Media Player, or one of the cool new MP3
players.
